HMS Student Scholarship

HMS Scholarships will be awarded to junior and senior undergraduates or graduate students enrolled in U.S. college or university programs related to environmental science, environmental engineering, chemistry, geology, or biology. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

The HMS Scholarship Committee has objective and non-discriminatory criteria by which each scholarship application is judged to determine finalists who are then evaluated by the HMS Board of Directors. The winner of the scholarship will be enrolled as a member.  The criteria are:

UNDERGRADUATES:  

Enrolled in degree program programs related to environmental science, environmental engineering, chemistry, geology, or biology or in a field of health and safety, hazardous materials management, dangerous goods transportation, or environmental protection.
Standing as a junior or senior.
GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
Letter[s] of Recommendation as defined in the application form.

GRADUATES, MEDICAL OR LAW SCHOOL

GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Clearly defined research proposal related to a problem in a problem of technical, environmental, or social importance.  (Law school and medical school applicants may have this modified by the scholarship committee.)
Letter[s] of Recommendation as defined in the application form.

    Research Proposal

    Attach a description of the proposed research work. Do not exceed 6 pages in length, including any figures or tables. The description should address each one of the following items:

    Title
    Problem description
    Research objectives
    Research approach
    Innovative aspects and potential benefits of the proposed research

    Transcripts
    Upload copies of academic transcripts of undergraduate and graduate studies. A copy or unofficial transcript sent via pdf are acceptable.

    Letters of Recommendation
    Upload two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from the applicant’s academic advisor.
    Letters should be addressed to “HMS Student Scholarship.” Letters may be submitted by the applicant with the application package, or submitted directly to the Awards committee via email from the recommender to [email protected]
