SITUATION IN ORGANIZATION

The Sr Environmental Engineer reports directly to the Clear Lake Environmental Leader and provides environmental support for environmental reporting. The position requires direct interaction with other company and contract employees to exchange information and ideas directly related to the success of the plant and Acrylics business unit. The position has no direct reports.

JOB DIMENSIONS

The Sr Environmental Engineer provides engineering support to environmental reporting to ensure environmental compliance with environmental regulations and permits. The Sr Environmental Engineer will create and maintain the environmental reporting tool for the whole Clear Lake plant, the most complex Arkema plant in the Americas region with the highest replacement Asset Value ($1300M). This tool will simulate all 10 production units manufacturing processes and associated emissions.

The Arkema Clear Lake Plant operates continuously (24/7) and produces Acrylic Acid, Glacial Acrylic Acid, Butyl Acrylate and Methyl Acrylate.

Depending on the different environmental indicators (CO2, waste, water,…), the Clear Lake plant represents between 10% and over 50% of the total worldwide Arkema Group environmental footprint.

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are the key activities and responsibilities of the Sr Environmental Engineer role:

ENVIRONMENTAL· 100%

Create and implement Environmental Sustainability Reporting tools: using calculations from current database and reviewing for compliance while optimizing the reporting process and required tools for internal sustainability reporting.
Construct accurate quarterly REED reports for timely review and reporting: Health & Safety engineer provides back-up support for final REED reporting.
Act as subject matter expert on internal CSR reporting rules, good practices, and assumptions.
Required reporting on the plant’s total annual emissions (fugitive, point source, NOx and VOC’s), and annual emission events (air, soil, water and storm water) for review in the local community advisory panel (BAYCAP) monthly meetings.
Manage NOx permitting and compliance activities for the site, including working with The Dow Chemical Company to transfer the required annual allowance of annual NOX credits, timely submittal of the MECT Annual Compliance.
Serve as technical support for the Envision database which includes support for various environmental reporting and permitting activities (i.e., Title V Permits, Benzene NESHAPS, CJSWI, TRI Reporting, Emission Inventory Reporting, and Green House Gases).
Train plant management and plant personnel on the tools and knowledge required to meet environmental responsibilities — identifying gaps to maintain an effective compliance program.
Audit environmental data and provide timely feedback on any deficient conditions for immediate action.
Performs other relevant duties as assigned.

CONTEXT AND ENVIORNMENT

The Sr Environmental Engineer:

Has minimal (<5%) travel obligations – both domestic and international.
Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements.
Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc.
Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents.
Understands and supports the Clear Lake Facility Acrylic Monomers HSE2Q Commitment.
Act as a backup for the Clear Lake Environmental Lead

REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/WORK EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s or Masters’ of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
Must have strong math/engineering/computer background.
Must have ability to work in excel, with calculations. Experience with SharePoint and/or PowerBI
DCS, Aspen experience is preferred. Understanding in developing data systems across different platforms. Experience of collection and processing of data from generation in a DCS, to storage in a data historian, to exporting to Excel or PowerBI, etc.
Minimum of 5 Years of plant operations experience with understanding of environmental processes and hands-on experience in environmental compliance activities. Very good understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering. Must be able to explain CSR indicators in relation to manufacturing processes to a global audience
Minimum 3 years of experience practicing environmental processes compliance activities (DCS, Aspen experience is preferred).
Network with transverse and Corporate resources to achieve goals
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively interface with and manage contract service providers. Must be comfortable and proficient with computers and computer systems.
