While lasers drive innovation, they also present unique hazards, both from direct beam exposure and ancillary risks. As an OEHS professional, understanding laser operation, hazards, and safety controls is crucial to preventing injuries and ensuring workplace safety. However, gaining this specialized knowledge can often be a challenge. This course bridges that gap, equipping you with essential laser safety concepts to confidently manage risks in any industry where lasers are used.

Purpose

This self-paced course is designed to provide OEHS professionals with an introduction to fundamental laser safety concepts that might be useful in environments where lasers are used.

Course Expectations

  • Videos and other learning aids are provided for self-paced learning. Course activities may include but are not limited to practice activities, multiple-choice quizzes, and small group activities. These activities are designed to engage participants and assist in the retention of presented information.
  • Access to all course activities and materials is available for one (1) year from the paid registration date through the Bowen EHS® Learning Center.
  • This course contains 4.0 hours of instruction.

Course Objectives

Upon completion, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the process for laser generation.
  2. Compare and contrast the hazards associated with different classes of lasers.
  3. Provide one example of a beam hazard and non-beam hazard.
  4. List appropriate controls for different laser hazards.
