EnergySolutions Air Transport of Radioactive Materials (IATA/DOT) Training

Loading Training

This course is designed to provide initial introduction and review of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) and U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) regulations governing the safe air transportation of radioactive materials. The training includes detailed information relating to the definitions, calculations and requirements for the shipment of radioactive materials by air. Practical exercises are utilized that allow participants to apply the concepts of the training as it is being discussed. Regulations and materials will be provided to facilitate completing the course.

This course is especially effective as either an introduction for a new or inexperienced shipper, or as a thorough review for experienced shippers who desire refresher training to satisfy their IATA DGR & DOT 49 CFR HazMat Employee air modal function-specific training requirements. The presentation assumes knowledge of domestic shipping regulations for radioactive materials and concentrates on the additional air requirements and differences. AAHP has awarded eight (8) CEUs for this class.

Successful participants receive a certification stating that the training meets the requirements of 49 CFR 172 Subpart H and IATA DGR Section 1.5. Successful completion is achieved with a passing score of 80% or better on a written exam.

Course Topics include: Identify and Classify Radioactive Material; Determine Most Appropriate Shipping Description; Package Radioactive Material for Air Transport; Apply Correct Markings, Labels, Placards , Shipping Documentation and Emergency Response; Identify State & Operator Variations; Radiation & Contamination Shipping Limits; Operating Experience/Lessons Learned; Transportation Security; and Written Exam.

This is an advanced class and strongly recommend attending our DOT/NRC Radioactive Waste, Packaging, Transportation and Disposal Training or an equivalent course before attending this Radioactive Material Air Shipping course.
